History

In the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese the Rebasti family has founded a company founded on the peculiarities of a unique and extraordinary territory. The history of the family was born in the late 1800s, when Pietro Rebasti began to cultivate the vine and produce wine on a small hill in the municipality of Montescano, part of the Kingdom of Italy. This passion for viticulture was handed down from father to son until the seventies when Ermanno Rebasti, the current owner of the company, personally entered the vineyard and the winery with the clear desire to continue with the philosophy and values of the family, first among all the maintenance of a strong and respectful bond with the territory, which allows to reconcile and express at best the character and the expressiveness that make the company’s wines still unique today. The future at Poggio Rebasti is all “pink”: his three daughters inherited from his father the love for his land and a strong bond with family traditions. Cristina, Valentina and Martina intend to continue and develop the project started at the end of the 19th century by their tris-grandfather Pietro. Poggio Rebasti seeks excellence, day after day, through the care of details in the vineyard, in the cellar, in the relationship with the environment. The intent of the Rebasti family is to produce wines capable of expressing and enhancing the natural characteristics of the vineyards. A limited production, which recognizes quality as the only value and which expresses in each individual bottle the scent and taste of tradition, the experience gained over the decades by Rebasti’s skilled farmers and winemakers.

Farm

The Poggio Rebasti farm is located on the first hills of the Oltrepò Pavese, 20 km from Pavia and only 40 km from Milan. Harmoniously inserted in the surrounding territory, it extends for a total of 15 hectares completely planted, all registered in the DOC Oltrepò Pavese and cultivated in Croatina, Barbera, Uva Rara and Vespolina. Poggio Rebasti wines are born from a close collaboration between hard work in the vineyards and careful work in the cellar. All the interventions carried out in the vineyards are aimed at the maximum respect of the local ecosystem and aimed at low environmental impact agriculture and carried out personally by the same family.
Rebasti’s farm has chosen to adopt an agricultural method of production with low environmental impact: Integrated Agriculture. The vineyards of Poggio Rebasti are particularly suited to the cultivation of the traditional black grapes of Oltrepò, such as Barbera, Croatina, Uva Rara and Vespolina. The terroir of the hill where the farm stands consists mainly of sandstone, a feature that allows it to remain dry avoiding stagnant water, the altitude is equal to 250 mslm, the slope is high, the exposure mainly south makes these very sunny territories, the microclimate characterized by strong temperature ranges with very high summer temperatures and low winter temperatures, average rainfall. The form of breeding used by Rebasti’s farm is the simple guyot with only one fruitcane and a maximum of 12 buds. The plant density is on average 4,000 vines per hectare.
The harvest, which involves the entire Rebasti’s family, is carried out strictly by hand and in the box, with a careful selection of the bunches to preserve the integrity of the grapes and the vine.
The harvesting period varies between the end of September and the beginning of October, depending on the season and the exposure of the vineyard.
The work in the vineyards is completed with careful processing in the cellar.
Characteristic of the company’s wine production is the completely natural fermentation.
The historic aging cellar is still used at the end of the 19th century by the company’s founder. A small jewel completely buried, characterized by a natural and constant humidity throughout the year.
